Bringing medicine and dentistry together
Dr. Farzaneh Rostami is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Born in California and raised in Richmond, Virginia, she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a double major in Biology and Chemistry, making the Dean’s List along the way. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery summa cum laude at VCU, followed by post-graduate oral and maxillofacial surgery training at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia.
She chose the specialty in her third year of dental school. What drew her in was the way it sits at the intersection of two fields: an oral surgeon has to think like a physician about anesthesia, airway, and the whole patient, and like a dentist about the bite, the bone, and the smile that comes afterward. That dual training is what lets her handle cases that fall outside the scope of a general dental office, from a difficult wisdom tooth to full-arch implant reconstruction to surgery on the jaws themselves.
Partnering with referring dentists is one of her favorite parts of the job. As she puts it, “As partners, we share the common purpose of achieving optimal oral health for patients.”
Dr. Rostami’s Area of Expertise
Dr. Rostami provides the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a special interest in dentoalveolar surgery, implants, and corrective jaw surgery. Her focus areas include:
- Wisdom teeth removal, including complex extractions near the sinus or nerve, often completed in a single visit under IV sedation
- Dental implants, from single teeth through full-arch All-on-X reconstruction, planned alongside our periodontists and your restorative dentist
- Bone grafting to rebuild jaw volume lost to extractions, infection, or long-term denture wear
- Biopsy and evaluation of suspicious lesions or changes in the soft tissue of the mouth, with pathology review
- Orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery for bite problems, facial imbalance, and airway issues that braces alone cannot fix, coordinated with your orthodontist
- Facial reconstruction following trauma, pathology, or previous surgery
- TMJ disorder diagnosis and treatment, from conservative management and therapeutic Botox for TMD through surgical options
- Minimally invasive cosmetic facial procedures, performed with a surgeon’s understanding of the underlying anatomy
Dr. Rostami has trained extensively in in-office anesthesia, so patients who need a longer or more complex procedure, or who simply want to be fully relaxed, can be treated safely under IV sedation, deep sedation, or general anesthesia right here in our Annandale office.
